Let’s get you started with a couple activities that can make your trip a memorable one!
– An E-bike Ride is one of the most popular activities to see the Hood River Valley and the famed “Twin Tunnels” section of the Historic Highway. Along the way you will enjoy stunning views while being immersed in true Columbia Gorge landscapes.
– Looking for a more exciting activity for the day? Consider an amazing rafting trip on the White Salmon River. A short 15 mile drive takes you up to the Launch Point for an amazing half day whitewater adventure with River Drifters Rafting.
– Wind down your day with a Sunset Kayak Tour that meets in the heart of the Columbia River Gorge. This is a true visitor’s favorite and an amazing way to experience our local area.
1. Rent a Kayak or Paddleboard on the Hood River Waterfront
– Enjoy paddling in a safe, protected inlet at Gorge Paddling Center. Rent a kayak, paddleboard, or tandem kayak by the hour or for the day. Paddle to Frog Beach for a picnic while the kids build sandcastles. Afterward, grab a bite at Pfriem Family Brewers, where your little one can play at the nearby waterfront park.
2. Go on a Sunset Kayak Tour
– Take a relaxing, guided sunset paddle just 15 minutes from Hood River. Enjoy scenic views, wildlife encounters, and learn about the Columbia River Gorge’s history. Adventurous families can try the river rope swing. End the tour watching the sunset from your kayak amidst the picturesque peaks of the Columbia Gorge National Scenic Area.
3. Hop on Board the Scenic Train
– Enjoy a leisurely train ride along the lower fork of the Hood River. Marvel at peek-a-boo views of Oregon’s tallest peak, Mt. Hood. Pack a picnic for your layover at The Fruit Company, or opt for VIP or Premium Seating to enjoy food and beverages onboard.

5. White Water Rafting with River Drifters on the White Salmon River
– Experience the thrill of white water rafting. Suitable for families seeking an adrenaline rush, this guided adventure offers excitement and stunning river views. Just across the way from Hood River on the Washington side the White Salmon River Rafting is world class!
6. Rent E-bikes

– Visit Packer’s Orchard and Farm Place, perfect for kids, especially in the spring to feed baby animals. Enjoy u-pick farms offering delicious fruits and flowers, and explore The Gorge Whitehouse for a delightful family day out.
9. Take a Lesson in Kiteboarding, Windsurfing, Wing-Foiling, or SUP

10. Sign Your Child Up for a Mountain Bike Camp with the School of Send
– Let your kids enjoy mountain biking camp while you explore Post Canyon’s trails. Perfect for families looking to balance adventure and skill-building.
11. Sailboat Out of Cascade Locks
– Spend a day sailing from Cascade Locks. This relaxing activity offers stunning views and a chance for the whole family to enjoy the tranquility of the river. They offer tours morning, mid-day, and sunset sailing!
12. Boat Cruise on the Sternwheeler Out of Cascade Locks
– Take a scenic boat cruise on the sternwheeler, a hit with all ages. Opt for the dinner cruise for a memorable meal with beautiful river views, making it a perfect family outing.
How to plan the perfect getaway full of adventure and romance.
It is hard to beat a breakfast at the Riverside Grill. The stunning scenery on the deck overlooking the Columbia River is a great way to start your day.
Let that food settle in with a view of windsurfers and kiteboarders at the Hood River Waterfront. The best place to check out the action is at the Hood River Event Site.
Pick up an E-Bike Rental at the waterfront and start your journey into downtown Hood River. Follow a fun route that takes you up into the east side of the Hood River Valley. You can enjoy sweeping views at Panorama Point county park and pass by pear and apple orchards along the way. Head further east and you can travel along the Historic Route that is closed to cars. 5 Miles of smooth road that has several stunning viewpoints and historic features including twin-tunnels built in the 1920’s. Continue on and you will head into the town of Mosier. Get some tacos at the local taco truck or enjoy and espresso and treat at Randonnee Coffee. If you’re feeling extra adventurous continue on Route 30 and explore the cherry orchards and wineries along that route.
Lunch options that we recommend are: New York City Subs, Hood River Taqueria, Lampoei’s Thai Food, or 6th St Bistro.
If bikes aren’t your thing then consider some of our local watersports options. Kayaking or Paddleboarding on the Hood River waterfront is an easy choice for a fun outing. An hour long rental for only $25 is hard to beat. If you want to take it up a notch then consider a rafting trip just 15 mintues from Hood River with our friends at River Drifters Rafting. This is a world class whitewater stretch of the white salmon river that is a must do!
If you want to see the river from a different unique perspective you can hop on a sailboat just 25 minutes away in cascade locks and go for a fun cruise that you can do morning, midday, or sunset.
Dinner is really where Hood River shines. Our favorite spots are Sushi Okalani, Celilo, 6th St Bistro, and 3 River’s Grill.
